Vacation getaways are inherently fun, but sometimes we try to jam too many things into our trip. There is so much to do in our north Georgia backyard, but taking time to relax and just BE is so important. Here are some ideas you might consider during your stay.
Roasting Marshmallows
If you are fortunate, you have a few burnt marshmallows in your history. This is the way to go for low maintenance family fun. Marshmallow, stick, fire, done. Many of our cabin rentals have outdoor fire pits - just check under amenities (or call us) to be sure.Puzzles
OK, so maybe you have not worked a puzzle since you were 10 and stayed with your grandparents. It might be time to try it again! Puzzles can be strangely addictive. Just be sure to get a size that is not overwhelming and can be completed during your stay. How about a 3-D puzzle? Check out Bepuzzled for creative options.Birdwatching
Seeing some birds you canât identify? There are lots of websites and apps to help with that. Check out All About Birds website and choose the Bird ID tab to help you figure out your bird. If you canât see it but can hear it, use the tutorial to learn how to ID birds by their calls!Have you seen this bird? Clue: what color is his bill?
Board Games
You might choose to leave Twister in the closet but you can still recreate childhood fun with old standbys like Connect Four, Monopoly, and Battleship. On the other hand there are lots of new games and twists on the old like Monopoly Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey Clue.Star-gazing
If you are coming from the city, you may find that you can see many more stars than at home. Check out Sky View Lite free app to access information on constellations and much more!Cook
Some people like to get away from cooking when they come to the mountains, but sometimes it can be fun to cook something that you donât usually do at home. Stop at Bettyâs Country Store and get a monster steak for the grill, or have the family pitch in for a giant batch of chili. Too much work? Canât go wrong with weiners on a stick! Insider Tip: Be sure to check amenities for the property of your choice. Most cabins have gas grills but a few places still have charcoal. Also, make sure to bring any kitchenware that is beyond the basics (a large soup pot for example if you make chili!).Properties with Game Rooms
For some built-in entertainment, choose from one of these properties:Alpine Chalet - Lots of fun spaces in this cabin just a mile from the middle of Helen. The game room has a pool table, foosball table, and big flat screen TV. Did I mention the master bedroom has a sauna?Game room at Alpine Chalet

Community tennis courts and swimming pool (open seasonally) are available for guests to use.Bearscape - Shoot some hoops no matter the weather in the indoor basketball court!
