the creek down below. Adanayla means "cabin" in Cherokee and a true log cabin it is.
The Moodys for whom Moody Hollow is named built it some time in the early to mid
1950's. The logs are old chestnut logs salvaged off the mountain after a terrible blight
wiped the Chestnuts out a century ago. We love the history and natural resources of the
Southern Appalachians and that love is reflected in the decor of the cabin. Many of the
antiques in the cabin date to the 19th century from the Appalachian regions of Tennessee,
Georgia, and North Carolina. While the cabin may be over half a century old, all the
appliances, plumbing, and electric are new. Ironically, my family owned the cabin many
years ago but after changing hands it fell into sad disarray. Fate brought it back to us and
after several years of renovation we are happy to be able to share this magical place with
The main floor has the living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms, and a full bathroom. The bottom floor has a living room area, washer and dryer, full bathroom, and a bedroom. The bottom floor is accessed by going out onto the front porch and going down the stairs.
Interesting Facts The cabin is perched over 2000 feet above sea level but just up the
road is the highest point in Georgia Brass Town Bald, which rises to 4,784 feet!
Shoals Creek which runs through Moody Hollow is a high water quality stream and was a
source for breeding stock of the indigenous Brook Trout. Take a walk up the road along
the creek until you get to the last gate. You'll come to a small private trailhead. Follow
this trail and it will take you to the beautiful Upper and Lower High Shoals Falls and a
spur of the Appalachian Trail. The falls are just a 15 minute walk from the cabin!
Moody Hollow is nestled in the Chattahoochee National Forest which covers over
The numerous creeks and streams nearby are home to some of the best
